Equipment
Our club can provide a shinai (bamboo sword) for your first three weeks of training, which you may use during training sessions. You won’t need to purchase protective equipment (bogu) right away. Our club can loan this to you from our own collection once you have passed the “basic exam.” After passing the exam, you may rent equipment. The cost of rental, depending on quality, will range between 1,000-2,500 Forints monthly. If you decide to purchase your own equipment, you can order it from the Internet. Visit www.kendo.lap.hu (under “kendo-boltok”), a website that is maintained by the club. Please consult with Tibor Bárány before you buy anything. He will provide you with useful information related to purchasing a shinai, hakama, keikogi or protective gear (bogu).
Useful information
- Our club can provide a shinai (bamboo sword) to you for the first 3 weeks of training, but afterwards we request that you purchase one yourself.
- You are not required to wear a hakama or keikogi/dogi (kendo clothing) during training. However, if you wish to practice kendo long-term, then you will be required to purchase these items.
- You should always have a first-aid kit with you, in case of a foot injury.
- If possible, you should swim or run in addition to training regularly. Overall physical conditioning is more beneficial for the kendo player than muscular strength.
- Our club maintains the websites www.iaido.lap.hu, www.kendo.lap.hu, www.budo.lap.hu, www.japankard.lap.hu. You can find a collection of links and download useful information from these sites.
